Details

It was a chaotic and violent scene inside the N. Sherman Ave. Goodwill store last night as two girls viscously attacked a younger teen in a clothing aisle. Shoppers said one girl punched the victim in the head knocking her to the floor, and that both suspects were punching and "curb stomping" the victim as she lie helpless.

A 74-year-old Madison woman was yelling at the suspects, telling them to stop.  A 31-year-old Waunakee woman was shouting for someone to call 911 as she went to intervene. The shoppers' actions caused the suspects to stop and run off.

When police got to the victim, she was in a pool of blood. She was in and out of consciousness, and at one point yelled, "I'm going to die!" That was not true, but she was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment of a possible concussion and a broken nose.

The suspects were located and taken to the Juvenile Reception Center on tentative charges of substantial battery and disorderly conduct.

Back at Goodwill, officers were trying to restore calm. The 74-year-old woman began to cry as she explained she wanted to do more to assist the victim and stop the assault: "If I were younger, I would have tried to help." An officer told her she had actually done everything should could, and that she did a great job comforting the girl and being there for her as police were called.
