Details

On June 26, 2018 at about 10:40 pm a Madison Police Officer was dispatched to a pizza delivery company to investigate a fraud report.  The officer learned that a delivery had been ordered from the 10 block of Powers Avenue. The driver delivered the order, was paid with a fifty and gave the customer change. After returning to the restaurant the delivery person realized that the $50 bill he had been given by the customer was not genuine.  The bill, which otherwise appeared to be a legitimate fifty had printed the words, "for motion picture purposes". The driver returned to the delivery address in an effort to receive proper payment.  The driver was not successful in getting properly paid. Efforts by police to contact the fraudulent pizza customer have so far been unsuccessful.  The case remains open.

Citizens and businesses should be cautioned to closely examine currency to affirm its genuineness. An on-line search of "motion picture money" will display images of fake cash similar to that used in this incident. It is not difficult to be deceived by the fake money. Police have seen these schemes in the past. A similar incident later that evening in the 1300 block of Ruskin Street involved the use of a "motion picture" hundred dollar bill.  It has not been determined if these incidents are related or merely coincidental.  Suspect information varies in the two cases.
