ArrestedKenneth C. Meyer, age 20, Madison
Suspect was arrested for second degree reckless endangerment.
DetailsA Madison man has been arrested for firing a handgun into the air as he drove through a residential neighborhood where children were playing and others were outside enjoying a Sunday evening.
Eyewitnesses along Carnwood Road called for police just before 6:00 p.m. Officers recovered several shell casings and were provided a good description of the suspect's car. Another resident, who was not home at the time of the gunfire, has a surveillance camera which captured images of the suspect's car.
This information was shared with other law enforcement, and Town of Madison police officers pulled the suspect's car over on Todd Drive.
The driver was arrested and a handgun - listed as stolen out of Middleton - was recovered.
A Madison officer developed probable cause to arrest the driver for second degree reckless endangerment for firing a handgun "in the middle of a residential area on a nice day where people were outside walking dogs and children were playing." In her report, the officer also wrote that the suspect's actions "by sending those bullets into the air with no regard for where they came back down showed utter disregard for the safety of the residents living on Carnwood Road and scared many residents who were not even outdoors."
