Incident Report for Case #2018-288009

Incident Type

Weapons Violation

Incident Date

07/28/2018 - 9:45 PM

1250 McKenna Blvd. (Elver Park)

West District officers arrived to a chaotic scene Saturday night after someone fired a gun multiple times at Elver Park, 1250 McKenna Blvd.

As many as 100 people were screaming and yelling in the parking lot. Officers got little to no cooperation from eyewitnesses as they attempted to find out what had happened. They eventually learned there had been an anniversary celebration to mark 20 years since a person had been killed in a shooting.

A child told an officer that someone had fired a handgun into the air near the children's playground. A shell casing was recovered from the area.

There were no reports of injuries. Once the park was clear of people, one officer reported there was " a large amount of trash scattered throughout the parking lot and throughout the park near the shelter and playground area including empty bottles of liquor, broken glass bottles of liquor, empty cigarette packs across the ground, empty food packaging and other miscellaneous trash."
