AddressEast Towne Mall
DetailsThe MPD is warning Green Bay Packers fans to be very careful when buying game tickets on the secondary market. This past weekend bogus tickets were sold to two separate parties in the East Towne Mall area after victims responded to Craigslist advertisements.
An investigating officer said the criminal(s) selling the bogus tickets is promising buyers very good seats.
In one case, a 58-year-old La Valle, WI, man spent $625 on four fake tickets Friday morning. They looked legitimate, but when the victim called the Packers ticket office he learned the price listed on the phony tickets was wrong. They showed a retail value of $109 a seat, when the real tickets would go for $136 a seat.
In another case, a 55-year-old Superior, WI, man spent $200 a ticket for four seats that were said to be on the 50 yard line. He told the MPD, had these tickets been the real deal these would have been "unbelievable seats."
To avoid being victimized, fans are urged to buy tickets through reputable brokers and to use a credit card when making purchases.
The Wisconsin Better Business Bureau has just released football season tips for fans.
A surveillance image of the man who sold tickets to the La Valle man is included with this Incident Report. Anyone with information on his identity is asked to contact Madison Area Crime Stoppers at (608) 266-6014. A photo of the fake tickets purchased by the La Valle man has also been posted.
