UpdateNumerous MPD detectives and officers were in the general area of the shooting yesterday for an unrelated investigation. Their proximity meant a dragnet was quickly in place resulting in the arrest of two hiding suspects: one of the arrests thanks to a strong assist from MPD K9 Bowie. Bowie tracked from the shooting scene, over a fence, through backyards before detecting a suspect hiding in thick brush behind a residence in the 1800 block of Browning Rd.
Violent Crime Unit detectives determined the suspects and victims got into a confrontation inside Capitol Petro, 1101 N. Sherman Ave., just prior to the shooting.
The victims were driving from the area when the gunman opened fire.

DetailsNearly a dozen shell casings have been recovered following a shooting on Northport Dr. this afternoon. Early information indicates a gunman fired at a car that was occupied by three people. A round struck the car's trunk and lodged in the backseat, but there were no reported injuries. The shooter and an accomplice fled on foot as officers flooded the area. Two people are currently detained by the MPD, but it is too early to determine if they will rise to the level of suspects. The MPD's Violent Crime Unit is taking the lead in this investigation. Detectives believe the gun violence was targeted.
