Medians

There are 871 medians, which are maintained by City staff. Medians are mowed on a two week cycle between April and November of each year. Allowing for delays because of weather, each median will be mowed approximately between fourteen and seventeen times during the growing season.

How It's Done

Parks Division introduced Global Positioning System (GPS) technology for the large area mowers, to record how effective work is being done.

  • Global Positioning System (GPS)/Automated Vehicle Location (AVL)
  • Mowing Routes

Low Mow Areas

One of the Madison Parks Division’s planning goals is to achieve a balance in the park system of 2/3 active park areas such as mowed play fields and 1/3 natural park areas such as woods, prairies and meadows.
