MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR

Image: Mayor Cieslewicz
Dear Friends:
Mowtown is part of our ongoing effort to provide excellent basic city services. We want to have a community that looks beautiful and well cared-for, just as we take care of our own homes and businesses. We also want to have a community that makes a great first impression on visitors, and few things are more visible than the grass in our parks, medians and boulevards. Thank you for taking the time to visit the MowTown site, and please let us know how we are doing!

Sincerely,
Mayor Dave Cieslewicz

Medians

There are 871 medians, which are maintained by City staff. Medians are mowed on a two week cycle between April and November of each year. Allowing for delays because of weather, each median will be mowed approximately between fourteen and seventeen times during the growing season.

How It's Done

Parks Division introduced Global Positioning System (GPS) technology for the large area mowers, to record how effective work is being done.

  • Global Positioning System (GPS)/Automated Vehicle Location (AVL)
  • Mowing Routes

Low Mow Areas

One of the Madison Parks Division’s planning goals is to achieve a balance in the park system of 2/3 active park areas such as mowed play fields and 1/3 natural park areas such as woods, prairies and meadows.

Visit a Conservation Park

A conservation park differs in how it is managed and why the land was acquired. The goal of the conservation park is to restore native plant and animal communities while providing education areas and opportunities for everyone.
