Safety Town Information

Your child is invited to attend Safety Town 2014! Safety Town is brought to you by the Madison Fire Department, Madison Police Department, and the Safe Kids Coalition. Safety Town is a week-long program that teaches children how to be safe in their community. Safety Town uses hands-on activities taught in an actual town (a small-scale city with streets, homes, and sidewalks) to teach children about many different aspects of safety and injury prevention. You child will even learn traffic safety using a Kett car! Safety Town is designed especially for children entering kindergarten in the fall.

Cost

The cost for this one week program is $100 per child.

What is included in the cost?

Each child will receive a Safety Town T-shirt and a Safety Town bag. All art supplies, course materials and snacks are also included.

Ages

Safety Town is designed for children entering Kindergarten in the fall, ages 4-5.

Daily Schedule

Each session is 3 hours a day for one week. Each day is filled with exciting new safety topics taught by various safety professionals from our community. Please do not drop your child off any earlier than 5 minutes before class starts and please arrive 10 minutes early to pick your child up.

Items to bring everyday include

  • Bike Helmet
  • Extra change of clothes in a zip lock bag

House Leaders

Safety Town House Leaders are professional, well-educated staff. Your child will be assigned a house and house leader for their time at Safety Town. The house leader will be responsible for your child while they are in attendance at Safety Town.

Guest Speakers

Safety Town has a variety of guest speakers who will be present throughout the week. These speakers are trained safety professionals who work in the Madison community. Your child will be able to meet Police Officers, Firefighters, and many other safety professionals during Safety Town!

Class Sizes

Each house has one house leader for every six children. Every session has a maximum of thirty-six children.

Daily Report

Every day your child attends Safety Town, they will be sent home with a daily report. This report will give you insight of the safety topics we discussed that day, and also a report on your child's behavior.

Check In/Check Out Policy

In order to ensure that your child is going home with the correct individuals, we require the parent or guardian to sign their child out each day. Please be prepared to show Photo ID every day. If someone is going to be picking your child up instead of you, you will need to provide written documentation beforehand as to who that person is, and they will be required to show ID and sign the child out. Please know that we are doing this for your child's protection, and NO exceptions will be made.

Safety Town Disciplinary Policy

This program is committed to safety and holds the safety of all participants involved in high regard. Safety Town reserves the right, upon notification of parents, to dismiss, without refund, any student during any session for inappropriate behavior in which the Safety Town house leader determines that your child's behavior is detrimental to the well-being of other students or to the smooth operation of Safety Town.

Special Needs

Safety Town is a fast-paced learning environment. We transition from one learning activity to another, with as little down time as possible. Please give careful consideration when determining if your child is going to participate in Safety Town.

Friday Graduation

The last day of Safety Town has a graduation ceremony. Graduation starts at 11:00. Once graduation is over, your child is dismissed from Safety Town, so please plan accordingly.
