Are you organizing a rally and/or march on State Street?
If so, the following permits may be required from the City and/or the State.- Amplification Permit: If the initial gathering or staging for a march is at the State St. Mall, and the time for the staging is 12:30-1:30 or 5:00-7:00 p.m., AND there will be amplification or exclusive use of the space is requested.
- Street Use Permit: If the rally/gathering is scheduled for the above locations outside of the time periods indicate. A Street Use Permit is also required for staging locations other than State St. Mall or 30 on the Square.
- Parade Permit: If there is a march component to the event, you will need a parade permit
- State Facility Use Permit: If activities such as speeches, music, etc. are planned for Capitol grounds, you must contact the Capitol Police, or call (608) 266-7840.

State Street Mall extends the entire length of State Street from the Capitol Square to Park Street. There are four areas on State St. and the Capitol Square where amplification is allowed at designated times and where electrical outlets are available. Permitted events have priority at these locations.

Podium - concrete stage area in the State St. Mall, 700 - 800 State St.

Peace (Elizabeth Link) Park - 452 State Street
Mon. – Wed. 12:00-1:00pm OR 5:00-7:00pm
Thu. – Sun. 12:00-1:00pm, 1:30-2:30pm, 4:30-5:30pm OR 6:00-7:00pm
30 On the Square - top of State St., next to Veteran's Museum
Rotary Plaza - 100 N Hamilton St. - next to Children’s Museum
Sun. – Fri. – 12:00-1:00pm OR 5:00-7:00pm
Sat. – 9:30-11am, 11:30-1pm OR 5:00-7:00pm
There are two types of permits that can be issued for use of these spaces. One type is an Amplification Permit. By ordinance (MGO 24.04(3)(b)2), Amplification permits are strictly limited to the locations and times outlined above.
To reserve these spaces outside the time periods indicated above, or to use other city streets or property for an event, a Street Use Permit is required. Street Use Permit Applications must be received at least 30 days prior to the date requested. There is a $50.00* non-refundable administration fee for this permit, with additional fees depending on equipment and services provided.
