DESIGN ALTERNATIVES SERIES
1. "Flex Street" Management Strategy. This map reflects an alternative concept to that portrayed in Map 6 of the "Initial Design Direction" series. It illustrates the "tabletop" design for the entire street except at the intersections with three high traffic cross streets. It also depicts traffic circulation patterns, bus shelter locations, and key entries into the District.
2. 100 Block View #1: Plan of "Tabletop" Alternative. This plan illustrates one concept for State Street which recognizes the importance of the interface between State Street and Capitol Square. It enhances this area to provide an inviting entrance to the street.
3. 100 Block View #2: Perspective of "Tabletop" Alternative. This image (looking towards Carroll and State Streets) helps illustrate the unified paving concept and "tabletop" design and integrates natural features at the corner.
4. Concrete Park View #1: Existing Conditions. This is a view looking at Concrete Park from State Street. The Towers apartment building is on the left, and the Statesider is on the right
5. Concrete Park View #2: Alternative Design Concept. This illustration investigates the introduction natural elements into an urban space. It uses the indigenous boulders and natural elements to soften this structured urban environment.
6. 500/600 Block View #1: Existing Conditions. The photo shows the existing conditions looking to the east down State Street.
7. 500/600 Block View #2: Alternative Design Concept. This illustrates the unified paving "tabletop" design with a contrasting strip to define the roadway. This sketch also illustrates the desire to incorporate a lighter and more transparent bus shelter design.
8. Alternative Bus Shelter Design Concept. This sketch illustrates how a more transparent bus shelter design can use the reflective nature of glass to provide color and interest at night, particularly during the winter months.
