Rigid Plastic Recycling Program

The City of Madison is pleased to announce a new drop off recycling program.  Madison Residents can now recycle what we are calling Mixed Rigid Plastics.

What Can Be Recycled?

  • Plastic Toys NO METAL/ NO WOOD/ NO WIRES/ NO BATTERIES
  • Plastic buckets NO metal handles
  • Plastic milk/soda crates
  • Plastic laundry baskets
  • Plastic lawn furniture
  • Plastic landscape items such as edging
  • Microwave trays
  • Plastic totes- any size NO metal
  • Plastic drums- any size Food Grade ONLY, No chemical containers
  • Plastic pet carriers No Metal
  • Plastic pallets
  • Plastic coolers
  • Plastic shelving
  • Plastic closet organizers
  • Plastic dish drainers
  • Plastic flower pots No soil
  • Plastic traffic signs
  • Empty garbage cans- any size No Metal
  • Plastic waste baskets
  • 5 gallon water bottles

Metal handles, axles, etc. must be removed by the customer.  The metal can be recycled in the scrap metal area at the drop off sites.

All items should be rinsed and any lose soil, dirt, etc. removed.

Where Do I Recycle This Plastic?

This material must be brought to one of our two full service drop off sites.  Those sites are:

East:  4602 Sycamore AV

West: 1501 W. Badger Rd.

To learn more about the sites....

DO NOT PUT THESE PLASTICS IN YOUR GREEN RECYCLING CART.

You must bring these items to the drop off sites to get them recycled.

What Items Cannot Be Recycled?

  • PVC Pipe/Tubing
  • Vinyl Siding
  • Plastic Film (Grocery bags & Stretch film)
  • Chemical Containers
  • Pesticide/Herbicide Containers
  • Petroleum Containers
  • Styrofoam
  • Flexible Water Hoses
  • Hazardous Material
  • Medical Waste

Who Can Use The Program

The use of the City of Madison drop off sites and this program is limited to City of Madison residents and property owners.
