Ride the Drive Etiquette

ETIQUETTE

To promote safety, we encourage everyone - especially bikers, but also joggers, strollers, parents and children, dog walkers, and rollerbladers – to take care and be patient and courteous with other event participants when enjoying Ride the Drive. With a variety of different users traveling at different speeds, the best way to keep yourself and others safe is to remain alert and respect the people around you.

ALL PARTICIPANTS

  • We recommend not wearing headphones during Ride the Drive

Cyclists and Skaters

  • Pedestrians ALWAYS have the right of way, so yield to them
  • Obey all traffic signs and signals
  • Faster users should yield to slower users
  • Pass others on the left. Slow down, give an audible warning such as ringing a bell or calling out excuse me, passing left, and wait for a reaction before passing
  • Always travel at a safe speed, with due regard for others

Walkers and Joggers

  • Be aware of cyclists and don't dart out suddenly in the path of a cyclist
  • Obey all traffic signs and signals

DOG WALKERS

  • Keep dogs on a short leash (not a flexilead) at all times
  • ALWAYS carry equipment sufficient to clean up your dog's feces
  • Dogs must wear current rabies, license and owner ID tags
  • Have water for your dog
  • For more information on the responsibilities of Dog Owners, go to Madison Parks.
