Here's the planned work for the week of July 6th for East Washington Avenue (Marquette Street to Melvin Court) and HWY 30/Aberg Avenue (McCormick Avenue to Fair Oaks Avenue)
Aberg Avenue/Highway 30 is scheduled to be CLOSED from 7AM to 10PM on Saturday July 11, 2009 for removal of the inbound East Washington Avenue bridge over HWY 30. A detour route will be posted for westbound HWY 30 traffic using USH 51 to USH 151 (East Washington Avenue); and for eastbound traffic the detour will use HWY 113 (Packers Avenue and First Street) to USH 151 (East Washington Avenue).

The project is expected to last through September. Additional phases of construction will begin on the corridor in May. This construction project will include replacement of utilities located beneath the street as well as replacement of all lanes of pavement. Construction of this phase will impact traffic as follows:
Gorham Street from State Street to Bassett Street: Traffic will be reduced to one lane of traffic at State Street at all times of the day. Beginning June 19, two lanes of traffic will be maintained during peak hours. During non-peak traffic may be reduced to one lane.
University Avenue - from Bassett Street to Park Street: Traffic will be reduced to two lanes of traffic at all times of the day.
Broom Street - from Johnson to Gorham:
Traffic will be reduced to one lane of traffic at Johnson Street at all times of the day.
Broom Street - from State Street to Gorham Street: Broom Street will be operated as a one-way street from State Street to Gorham Street.
Beginning June 23nd Lake Street between University Avenue and Johnson Street will be temporarily converted to a Southbound (Towards Kohl Center) Street to facilitate University Avenue Construction. Lake Street North of University avenue and south of Johnson Street will continue to operate as normal.
Beginning June 23nd Frances Street between University Avenue and Johnson Street will be temporarily converted to a Northbound (Towards State Street) Street to facilitate University Avenue Construction.
Bicycle route detours will be posted along these routes.
Information as well as updates can be found on the University Avenue Construction Project Website: www.cityofmadison.com/engineering/universityavenue. The traveling public can sign up to receive email updates on the construction project as well as find information on parking provided by the Madison Business Improvement District.
Severe delays are expected during peak commuting times on both the Gorham-University Avenue Corridor and the Broom Street Corridor for the duration of this project. Motorists are encouraged to find alternate routes during the construction project. Access to all businesses as well as City of Madison Parking ramps and lots will be maintained at all times during the construction project.

This project is expected to last until the end of August. Project will include replacement of utilities as well as replacement of all lanes of pavement except the bus lane.
Phase 1 Construction: May 18th to Mid July
University Avenue between Park Street and Campus Drive will be reduced to two travel lanes at all times of the day. Traffic may be reduced to one travel lane during non-peak (9 am - 3 pm) hours to conduct paving operations. Traffic will be shifted to the north side of the roadway while the south side of the roadway is reconstructed.
Expected Phase 1 Closures During the Project (Dates are approximate)
Brooks Street:
Brooks Street will be closed between University Avenue and Johnson Street from Monday May 18th until Friday June 19th.
Mills Street:
Mills Street will be closed between University Avenue and Johnson Street from Monday May 18th and will remain closed until Mid July.
Charter Street:
Charter Street will be closed between University Avenue and Johnson Street from Wednesday June 10th until Monday June 29th.
Phase 2 Construction: Mid July to End of August
Traffic Will be shifted to the south side of the roadway while the north side of the roadway is reconstructed. Traffic will be reduced to two lanes of traffic at all times. Traffic may be reduced to one travel lane during non-peak hours to conduct paving operations. Cross traffic will be maintained at all times.

Farley Avenue will be closed to all southbound traffic between University Avenue and Stevens Street beginning Saturday May 30th and will remain closed thru Friday June 5th. Northbound traffic on Farley will be maintained at all times during this closure. University Bay Drive, north of University Ave will also be maintained in both north and south directions at all times during the closure
Phase 2 construction: July 2 to End of August
Campus Drive between Babcock Drive and Farley/University Bay Dr. will be reduced to one travel lane in each direction during all times. Traffic will be shifted to the south side while the north side is reconstructed.
Expected phase 2 Closures during the Project
Westbound Off-Ramp to Highland Ave.
Off-ramp will be closed beginning July 2. During this time traffic on Highland Ave will be shifted to the west side of Highland Ave while the east side of Highland Ave is reconstructed.
Westbound On-Ramp from Highland Ave. to University Ave.
On-ramp will be closed immediately following the reopening of the off-ramp at this location and will remain closed for a three week period. During this time traffic on Highland Ave. will be shifted to the east side of the roadway while the west side is reconstructed.
Joint Repair:
Joint repair will be performed on University Avenue between University Bay Dr./ Farley Ave. and Shorewood Boulevard. Traffic may be reduced to two travel lanes in each direction at all times. Work remaining includes restoration and pavement markings.

Northeast Neighborhood Sewer Extention

Sprecher Road will be closed to through traffic so new sanitary sewer and water main can be installed. These new facilities will also be installed along CTH T from Sprecher Road to Felland Road. The water main will cross the CTH T at Felland Road. Traffic will reduced to one lane during non peak hours for the crossing. The water main crossing is expected to occur on June 18 and 19. The restoration of the pavement is scheduled for June 22 - 25. Flag persons will be used to direct traffic.
