Your water bill is one part of the Madison Municipal Services bill which is sent every six months.  The average six-month residential Madison Municipal Services bill as of June 2009 is $239.10, and includes the following:

  • Water and sewer meter charges
  • Water use (metered water consumption)
  • Landfill remediation
  • Storm sewer
  • Sewer use
  • Public fire protection

The cost for 1000 gallons of water is $1.88 and for sewer $1.78. Overall use in the city in 2008 was 108.88 gallons per person per day, though less for residential accounts—64.8 gallons per person per day.

Rate Case

Information about the Water Utility's current rate case can be found on the website of the Wisconsin Public Service Commission (regulatory agency) under the docket number 3280-WR-111.

Can I be billed monthly?

A customer who wishes to prepay toward the next scheduled billing may do so. Please contact Water Utility Customer Service to arrange to make monthly or quarterly payments in advance. Call (608) 266-4641.

View Your Account Online

Madison Water Utility invites you to use a new online feature called MyWater.

MyWater allows you to:

  • Check the current balance of your account.
  • View amount of previous billings and payments.
  • View a history of your water use and meter readings.
  • Sign up to receive electronic bills (no paper copy will be sent).
  • Provide a link for online payment.
  • Use the Ask Us/Tell Us feature to ask a question or report a problem.
