October is Polish American Heritage Month. To celebrate the Polish Heritage Club of Madison, WI and the Alicia Ashman Public Library are showing the movie: Irena Sendler: In the Name of thier Mothers. Winner of the Best Documentary Audience Award, UK Jewish Film Fesival, the film tels the story of 29-year-old Irena Sendler who saw the suffering of Warsaw's Jews and reached out to her most trusted colleagues to help and outwitted the Nazis during World War II. Together they rescued over 2500 Jewish children. This film expertly captures the will and character of the women of the resistance against the backdrop of occupied Poland. This 2011 documentary was directed by Mary Skinner and stars Irena Sendlerowa and Jan Becker. Display and refreshments provided by Madison's Polish Heritage Club.
