The Rhapsodie Quartet will a perform public recital at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 6th in the Oakwood Village-West Auditorium. These recitals are free and a good-will donation of $5 is suggested at the door.
The Rhapsodie Quartet brings together some of the brightest stars of the Madison Symphony Orchestra. More than just a string quartet, the ensemble is the resident ensemble of the MSO’s award-winning Heartstrings Community Engagement Program. United in their mission, the members of the quartet create a fusion of talent, passion and heart in their performances.
In June, 2013, the quartet made its first international tour to Germany for performances in Wiesbaden and Freiburg, Germany. The group was appointed the official Cultural Ambassadors for the 25th anniversary Freiburg Sister City Festival and performed at the opening ceremonies for the festival. In addition to other recitals in both cities, MSO Director of Education and Community Engagement Michelle Kaebisch and the quartet conducted HeartStrings sessions at Freiburg University's Cancer Center and at another medical center in Weisbaden. Other recital venues included the Kaisersall at Freiburg’s historic Kaufhaus and the Mozartzall in the Bishop's Palace. The repertoire for the tour was Franz Joseph Haydn’s String Quartet in D major, Op. 76 No. 5; Charles Ives’s String Quartet No. 1; and Franz Schubert’s String Quartet No. 14 in D minor, “Death and the Maiden.”
