The City of Madison in partnership with the Urban League will be transforming the former Griff's restaurant into Madison's first neighborhood employment center. City planners, architects from Dorschner Associates, and Urban League staff invite you to a facilitated discussion about the center.
Brats and burgers will be provided.


From 3:30 to 4:45 PM we will host a FREE job readiness session. Get help polishing your resume or cover letter, practice your interview skills, develop your '30-second pitch', get job leads, and meet some employers looking to hire.

The PEPR Education and Training Center will be a neighborhood training center operated by the Urban League of Greater Madison at the closed Griff's Restaurant site. The design team for the project is seeking early community input and information important to the eventual design and construction of the center. Please come out to have your voices heard!!




Mayor Paul Soglin introduced his 2017 Executive Capital Budget last week.

The Board of Estimates will review  each agency's requests on Monday and Tuesday.

The work group shall not take action on a matter raised in the public comment portion of the meeting unless that matter is otherwise on the agenda. Members of the public who comply with applicable rules shall be permitted at least three (3) minutes to speak. 

If the speaker requires an interpreter, either because of his/her limited English proficiency or because of a disability, he/she shall be allowed no less than six (6) minutes.

4. Disclosures & Recusals
Members of the work group should make any required disclosures or recusals under the City's Ethics Code.
5. Review and Discussion of Subcommittee Charge:

The proposed Subcommittee on Police and Community Relations will seek to meet the following objectives:

a) Provide a forum for residents and members of the Council to discuss police and community goals, priorities and interactions. Build a deeper understanding of policing for elected officials and members of the public; and,

b) Explore models and options from other communities related to policing and other police policies; and,
c) Provide a forum for information sharing regarding police training, policies, data and trends including detailed presentations from the MPD related to policing; and,

d) Make recommendations to the Council on short-term policy, procedure and training while waiting for the results of the Ad Hoc Review of Police Policies and Procedures.

The Streets Division will begin the final guaranteed round of brush collection on Monday, September 19.
Starting on Monday, September 19, crews on both the west and east side of Madison will begin collecting brush from residents who live within the Monday refuse collection district.
After each street within the Monday refuse collection district has been serviced for the last guaranteed collection for 2016, crews will then move onto the area of the city within the Tuesday refuse collection district.
Upon completion of the Tuesday district, crews will then proceed to the Wednesday District and then onto the Thursday and Friday refuse districts for each district's final guaranteed collection.
Once all of the streets within the Friday refuse collection district have been serviced for the final round, guaranteed brush collection will end for 2016.  Brush set out after crews have completed the final round for a district may not be collected.  
Madison residents should get their brush trimmed and to the curb soon to avoid missing the final collection of the season.  To learn estimates on when crews are expected in your neighborhood check the collection maps on the brush section of our website   Residents could also call the brush collection hotline at 267-2088.  Madison residents and taxpayers can bring their brush to either of the brush drop-off sites.  The sites are located at 1501 W. Badger Rd. on the southwest side and 4602 Sycamore Ave. on the east side.  The sites will be open seven days a week from 8:30am to 4:30pm and until 8:00pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  The hours will be in effect until December 4, 2016.

The Homeless Day Resource Center is from Casey Becker, Dane County Department of Human Services Communications and Homeless Services Manager:
 Day Resource Center project and information on upcoming public meetings.
The County is negotiating with Catholic Charities to operate the Day Resource Center. The site that is currently being considered for the facility is the Chamber of Commerce building located at 615 East Washington Ave. The County closed on that purchase August 31st and now owns the property. The Greater Madison Area Chamber of Commerce will continue to be a tenant until November 1st.
There will be several public meetings coming up to provide you with an opportunity to learn more about the project, ask questions, and give input.

This is a regular public meeting of the City County Homeless Issues Committee. An update on the Day Resource Center will be included on the agenda for this meeting.

Note: This planned development is not within the boundaries of District 1, however, the development does boarder on the District. The newly formed Madison West Neighborhood Association has requested from Alder Skidmore, District 9, that an informational meeting with the architect be held. That meeting is scheduled for September 28. A broader information meeting for the Madison West Neighborhood Association is proposed. The formation of the MadWest Neighborhood Association is instrumental in bringing District 1 voices to the table.  

Parcel Location: The project site is located at the northwest corner of the intersection of Watts and High Point Roads, just south of Princeton Club West. The project site is comprised of approximately 184,693 square-feet (4.23 acres).

The site is in Aldermanic District 9 (Skidmore) and the Madison Metropolitan School District. Existing Conditions and Land Use: Today, the project site is vacant.

North: Health clinic and Health Club (Princeton Club West); Planned Development (PD) zoning; 

South: Vacant lands owned by Holy Name Catholic Center; PD zoning;
