The City of Madison is hiring Laborers to work at various City of Madison agencies.

Come work for the City of Madison! Laborers are essential to keeping our City beautiful, safe, and clean. As a Laborer you will work directly in City neighborhoods taking care of parks, removing trash, assisting with road repair work and various other vital tasks.

Working as a seasonal Laborer is a great first step to securing full time employment at the City of Madison. All seasonal Laborers are eligible for a free bus pass. Seasonal Laborers also received 8 hours of sick time for every 200 hours worked with a maximum of 24 hours. Individuals who work the entire season are eligible to receive half their unused sick leave paid back.

About the Position
This is entry-level, manual work performed in one of the Public Works agencies of the City of Madison, including Engineering, Parking Utility, Parks, Streets, Traffic Engineering, and the Water Utility.    The City annually hires approximately 100 hourly laborers for its various public works agencies. 

All applicants are considered for these positions. Applicants must be 18 years old and must have a valid driver's license by the time of the interview.

Madison Mayor-elect Satya Rhodes-Conway is looking for four deputy mayors.

"The work begins now to tackle our affordable housing crisis, make bus rapid transit a reality, proactively prepare for the effects of climate change, and address the cumulative harm of racial inequity and injustice in our community," said Rhodes-Conway. "For real progress to occur, I'll need innovative, talented, committed people."

Successful candidates will have deep knowledge and work experience in one of the following areas.

  • Climate resiliency and mitigation: Madison has set aggressive GHG reduction goals, and must at the same time proactively prepare for the impacts of a changing climate in a way that is both equitable and sustainable.
  • Innovative affordable housing strategies: Madison faces an affordable housing crisis and must be creative about producing housing units at all price points and across the city.
  • Community engagement: authentic, culturally competent community engagement is a major focus of the Rhodes-Conway administration.
  • Performance management: our new administration has the opportunity to bring a fresh eye to processes, programs and initiatives within City government.

The salary range for these positions is $80,210 - $96,490 for Deputy Mayor 1, and $101,129 - $121,527 for Deputy Mayor 2. 

There is also an opening for the Mayor's executive assistant. This person needs to be highly organized, professional and motivated as they will manage the Mayor's calendar and correspondence. The salary range for this position is $52,309 - $59,365.
