COVID-19 Vaccination Plan for Individuals Experiencing Homelessness and Purchase Agreement for New Eastside Shelter

The City-County Homeless Issues Committee is discussing COVID-19 vaccination plans for individuals experiencing homelessness, as well as the purchase of a new shelter on Zeier Road, at their meeting on Wednesday.

The Community Development Block Grant Committee will be discussing the purchase agreement for the new homeless shelter on Zeier Road at its meeting on Thursday.

Events, activities, seminars, etc.

  • On Monday, March 1, from 5:30pm-7:30pm, there will be a Zoom-based Community Q & A Session regarding the proposed Zoning Ordinance amendments related to allowing greater residential densities and adjusting conditional use thresholds.  There will be a video presentation to provide an overview, and Planning Division Director Heather Stouder and Zoning Administrator Matt Tucker will be available for questions.
  • Badger Talks is presenting a LIVE series of talks on topics that intend to inspire, delight, and pleasantly distract in a time we are all needing positive experiences. On Tuesday, March 2, at noon, join WPR's "Morning Classics" host Stephanie Elkins in a free, live online conversation about American classical composer Florence Price. Price is noted as the first Black woman to be recognized as a symphonic composer, and the first to have a composition played by a major orchestra.  This virtual talk will take place on Screenz here, and the UW Connects Facebook page here.   • Attend a virtual informational meeting on Wednesday, March 3, 6pm-7:30pm to provide feedback and learn more about the Metro Transit Network Redesign.  Complete information here.
  • Roadbuilding virtual job fair on Thursday, March 4, 4pm-6pm.  This event will be held via ZOOM and will offer one-on-one interviews for various open positions with Walbec.  If interested, please register online at
  • The Friends of UW-Madison Libraries are presenting a free livestream event on Thursday, March 4, at 4pm – The Campus Color Line: College Presidents and the Struggle for Black Freedom.  Eddie R. Cole will discuss his new book, The Campus Color Line: College Presidents and the Struggle for Black Freedom with UW-Madison's Public History Project Director, Kacie Lucchini Butcher.   • Madison Metro has released a bus rapid transit station design contest. The contest winner will receive a $10,000 award. All submissions must be emailed to no later than 5:00 pm on Friday, March 31.  Complete details are here. Read the press release here.

  • Please attend a Phase One virtual community meeting on Wednesday, March 3, 6pm-7:30pm to learn about Metro Transit's Network Redesign.  The purpose of the Metro Transit Network Redesign is to "design a route system that will better meet the needs of Madison area residents and businesses by increasing access, decreasing travel times, and improving the quality of transit riders' experience."  Complete details, including the registration link, can be found here.
  • Flex Lane construction begins next week on Madison Beltline.  Nightly lane closures begin Monday, March 1, on the Madison Beltline (US 12/18) between Stoughton Road and Todd Drive. The nightly lane closures will occur from 6:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday. Various interchange ramps within these limits will also be closed nightly from 6:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.; closures will be announced via message boards on the ramps.  You are encouraged to watch the narrated YouTube video about the Flex Lane operations.   • Metro Transit and the City of Madison Transportation Commission held a public hearing to review and discuss service adjustments proposed for later in 2021.  After hearing public feedback, staff have changed some portions of the proposal, including removing the increased frequency of the Route 2, and instead reinstating a new Route 28 to better serve residents in the Eken Park neighborhood.  Commission members will review these proposals at their next meeting on Wednesday, March 10.  Please continue to provide feedback on the proposal.  Complete information can be found here.
  • On Wednesday, March 10 at 5pm, Metro Transit and the City of Madison Transportation Commission will be reviewing the planned bus stop changes occurring in 2021.  Changes include bus stops closing, opening, the addition of concrete bus stop pads and/or the addition of an amenity.  Passengers and stakeholders are encouraged to attend the meeting or give feedback. Consideration will be given to views and comments expressed as well as to all phone and written comments received.  Complete information can be found here.
