Proposed Zoning Ordinance Changes

The Plan Commission will be discussing proposed housing ordinance amendments at its meeting on Monday.

Body-Worn Cameras and Restorative Justice Programs

The Public Safety Review Committee will discuss the final report and model policy of the Body-Worn Camera Feasibility Review Committee, a resolution on restorative justice programs, and receive a presentation from the Black Officer Coalition at its meeting on Wednesday.

  • You're invited to "Madison Makes," a showcase of our resilient and creative community, this Saturday, March 6, 10am-noon.  Read more here.
  • Join WRTP/BIG STEP for a virtual Women in Construction Roundtable via Zoom on Wednesday, March 10, at 4pm.  The roundtable will feature a panel of women who have found success in the construction industry.  The discussion will include personal stories from women in the industry; advice on how to have a successful career in construction; live Q&A/open discussion platform; and representation from several union trades.Register for the roundtable here.  If you have any questions, please call WRTP/BIG STEP at (608) 255-0155 or email WRTP at southcentral@wrtp.org.
  • Metro Transit and the City of Madison Transportation Commission held a public hearing to review and discuss service adjustments proposed for later in 2021.  After hearing public feedback, staff have changed some portions of the proposal, including removing the increased frequency of the Route 2, and instead reinstating a new Route 28 to better serve residents in the Eken Park neighborhood.  Commission members will review these proposals at their next meeting on Wednesday, March 10.  Please continue to provide feedback on the proposal.  Complete information can be found here.
  • On Wednesday, March 10 at 5pm, Metro Transit and the City of Madison Transportation Commission will be reviewing the planned bus stop changes occurring in 2021.  Changes include bus stops closing, opening, the addition of concrete bus stop pads and/or the addition of an amenity.  Passengers and stakeholders are encouraged to attend the meeting or give feedback. Consideration will be given to views and comments expressed as well as to all phone and written comments received.  Complete information can be found here.
  • Check out the many Wisconsin Book Festival free events.See what's coming up, and watch past events online, including the recording of Heather McGhee talking about her book The Sum of Us. If you are not familiar with zero sum, this will help you gain an understanding of the zero sum mindset.
  • UW-Madison's Institute for Research on Poverty (IRP) is sharing a podcast and Fast Focus brief on the history and consequences of housing discrimination from Jacob Faber, an Associate Professor of Sociology and Public Service at New York University and a former IRP Emerging Poverty Scholar Fellow.

  • Street sweepers working overnight hours starting March 7.  Read more here.
  • The Engineering Division is proud to join the nationally-recognized Women in Construction Week, March 7-13, 2021.  Women make up 10.9 percent of the U.S. construction workforce, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Women represent 23.39 percent of the City of Madison Engineering Division's workforce.  Read more about what the Engineering Division is doing to recognize women in the construction industry in their press release.
  • On March 2, Public Health Madison & Dane County released new measures for assessing progress and Emergency Order #14, which takes goes into effect March 10, at 12:01am and will be in effect for 28 days.  Read the press release.
  • Madison's Poet Laureate, Angela Trudell Vasquez, shares a new occasional poem to commemorate COVID-19 losses.  Read the poem here.
  • The timetable for vaccinating Dane County educators has been moved up.School and childcare staff vaccinations at the Alliant Energy Center start March 9.  Read more here.
  • Counselors with Project Recovery, Wisconsin's implementation of the FEMA Crisis Counseling Program, are providing cost-free and over-the-phone crisis counseling focused on non-judgmental listening and helping folks navigate their emotions and reactions to stress caused by the COVID-19 public health crisis.  Anyone can be connected to a crisis counselor by dialing 211 or, by contacting Project Recovery through their website.
  • If you need in-person assistance to complete the Dane CORE rental assistance online application, Tenant Resource Center (TRC) staff is available to help. Check the online scheduler for more information and to schedule an appointment.If you don't have internet access, please call the TRC main line at (608) 257-0006. TRC staff will return the call as soon as possible to set up your appointment.
