Event Highlights for the Week of March 29, 2021

Spring is here, and we're all looking forward to getting outside!  If cleaning up the yard is part of your spring plans, you'll want to check out the helpful information below.

Events, activities, seminars, etc.

  • The City of Madison Clerk's Office invites the public to observe its public test of election equipment on Saturday, March 27, beginning at 9am at 2713 E. Washington Avenue.  More information can be found here.
  • The Rainbow Project is hosting a learning series throughout the month of April for National Child Abuse Prevention Month. This series will be held virtually every Wednesday in April and is free and open to all who are interested. Please check out their web page to learn more about the speakers and to register for the webinars.

Announcements, press releases, press conferences, etc.

  • Madison Gas & Electric (MGE) has information and resources for families who have fallen behind on their MGE bills.
    • For information regarding personalized payment arrangements for outstanding balances, visit MGE online. Information is available in three languages: English, Spanish and Hmong. Residential customers can call on weekdays at (608) 252-7144 (English), (608) 252-7120 (Spanish) or (608) 252-7033 (Hmong) between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. to set up a personalized payment arrangement.
    • Residential customers may be eligible for additional financial support from MGE's partner, Energy Services, Inc. (ESI). You can visit to verify your eligibility, schedule an appointment to speak with an ESI representative and apply for funds online. You also can call ESI at (800) 506-5596.
    • A list of resources available at
  • The American Rescue Plan Act signed on March 11 provided for an additional $1,400 per qualifying individual stimulus payment. The first wave of payments was issued March 17 and a second wave March 24.  According to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), taxpayers are still eligible to claim earlier Economic Stimulus Payments (EIP1 & EIP2) if they were not received. To receive the earlier payments, taxpayers need to file a 2020 federal tax return even if they have no filing requirement. The earlier missed payments are claimed as a Recovery Rebate Credit on the 2020 federal tax return. Individuals who were claimed as dependents in 2019 who are no longer dependents may also qualify for the 2020 stimulus payments. The due date for filing 2020 tax returns has been extended to May 17, 2021. While many of the free tax preparation locations were not able to open due to the continuing pandemic, there are a number of sites open around the state that are providing free tax preparation through VITA. There are also locations that are operating on virtual or touchless models to provide service to taxpayers including a Facilitated Self-Preparation model.  The VITA site locator available on IRS.GOV can help you find a location that may be able to serve you. There may also be virtual links if you are more comfortable with technology and self-preparation links available to prepare your own returns with just a little help.  Please refer to the VITA site locator.
  • The Madison Police Department is now posting their traffic enforcements efforts on the Traffic Enforcement and Safety Blotter.
  • Metro Transit staff are working on a complete network redesign to create a new system of bus routes that better serves the needs of Madison area residents and businesses.  Tell us what you think!  Please fill out the Transit Choices Survey to help us better understand your goals and priorities for the future redesigned transit network. For additional information on the Metro Transit Network Redesign project, visit Questions and comments can also be emailed to
  • The Madison Police Department pledges to advance women in policing.  Read more here.

  • Public Health Madison & Dane County will be hosting a virtual town hall on COVID-19 vaccines on Thursday, April 8, at 6pm.
