RE: Street Reconstruction Project, Start of Construction – Additional Information

The City of Madison is planning to begin construction on Hammersley Road (Brookwood Road to Gilbert Road). The project is scheduled to begin the week of April 17, 2023. Madison Gas & Electric has already begun their gas replacement work within the project limits. The contract for this work has been awarded to S&L Underground. In addition to the fact sheet that was previously mailed, there are two clarifying items for property owners along Hammersley Road that will be impacted by this project.

USPS Mail Delivery

The Contractor will setup temporary mailboxes with the start of the project to allow USPS mail delivery to continue during construction. The Contractor will notify individual residents with front-door notices of temporary mailbox locations and timing. Mailboxes that are currently on the north-side of Hammersley Rd (Brookwood to Gilbert) will be reinstalled in the newly created grass terrace space between the path and curb after construction is complete.

Mailboxes that are currently on the south-side of Hammersley (Brookwood to Gilbert) will be reinstalled in the same location as they are today after construction is complete. Mail delivery currently to the door will continue as-is today after the project is complete.

In addition to USPS, other delivery methods (FedEx, UPS, Amazon) will still occur throughout construction as conditions allow. Please ensure that your home address is clearly visible at the front of your house to ensure delivery drivers are able to locate delivery addresses without mailboxes in place.

City Leaf & Yard Waste Collection

Leaf & yard waste collection for residents on Hammersley between Whitney Way and Gilbert Rd will occur the week of Sunday, April 16th; and for residents on Hammersley between Brookwood Rd and Whitney Way, leaf & yard waste collection will occur the week of Sunday, April 23rd . Please put out leaf & yard waste to the curb on the Sunday the week of collection, as pick-up will likely occur early in the week. Any spring collections beyond these dates will not be accommodated during construction. Fall collection dates should occur as normal after the project is complete.

To request accommodations for special needs or disabilities or if you have any other questions regarding this project, please contact the Project Engineer, Aaron Canton at (608) 242-4763 or acanton@cityofmadison.com.
