Snow Plow Update, November 28

November 28, 2018 3:35 PM

Forecasts are calling for snow overnight, which means the Streets Division trucks will be out.

The Streets Division will deploy 32 trucks to maintain the salt routes once the snowfall begins to accumulate on the roads.  Two additional trucks will also be deployed to apply sand for traction to the hills, curves, and intersections that need material but do not meet the requirements to be salted. As a refresher, salt routes are the main thoroughfares of Madison, Metro bus routes, and the roads around schools and hospitals.

Current forecasts show the snow arriving overnight and potentially ending before the Thursday morning commute, but those traveling across the city Thursday morning should still plan to need a little extra time to arrive at your destinations safely and on time. Remember to make good choices and be slow, cautious, and patient. Slippery spots, especially in untreated residential areas, may develop.

Streets Division crews will only be deployed if conditions require it, and they will stay on the salt routes for the duration of the storm.  Streets Division staff will monitor the weather, and the roads, through the night and future updates will be provided as conditions merit.

And finally, don't forget to check out www.cityofmadison.com/winter for more useful winter information, including tips on using the correct amount of salt on your sidewalks.
