Meeting and Event Highlights for the Week of April 12, 2021

Hello! Now that we have passed Election Day, Alders are again allowed to have our blogs sent to subscribers! So, I'm moving my Weekly Updates here! One special update is that the Whitney Way Improvements item that I posted would be on Wednesday's Transportation Commission has been referred to the meeting on 4/28.

Discussion of Advisory Referenda Results

The TFOGS Final Report Recommendations Implementation Work Group will be discussing the results of the advisory referenda on Common Council size and composition at its meeting on Wednesday.

Events, activities, seminars, etc.

·       "Asian American Hate - The Other Pandemic" is a free, collaborative, community-based vodcast presented by Africasong Communications, Inc. on Tuesday, April 13, at 1pm.  The vodcast will be hosted by Jonathan Overby and features Sharyl Kato, LPC Child and Family Therapist.  Read more and register here.

·       "What's Past is Prologue: The Unfinished American Conversation," a compilation of staged songs and song cycles that social and racial justice themes, will be streamed on April 10 at 7:30pm and April 11 at 2pm on the Mead Witter School of Music YouTube channel.

Announcements, press releases, press conferences, etc.

  • Madison Water Utility's pipe cleaning program started on April 5. Where crews are working, people may temporarily have discolored water or low pressure.  Read more here.
  • Dane County residents age 16 and older can sign up for COVID vaccine appointments at the Alliant Energy Center and other locations.  Transportation is available for those who need it. You will be given more information about this service is after you make an appointment.  Find more information in English and Spanish.
  • The Streets Division's plastic bag recycling program is ending.  Residents should no longer place plastic film and plastic bags into their recycling carts. Residents should not bring plastic film to the Streets Division drop-off sites, either.  Read more here.
  • The Parking Division is taking a proactive approach to some intermittent credit processing outages that will arise due to important system upgrades. To mitigate as much impact to the public as possible, the work will occur on Sundays in April, when garage use is at its lowest.  Read more here.
