Car-X Proposal, Northside Violence Prevention Job Opening

December 20, 2016 1:45 PM

Now that it's warming up to seasonal averages, it's time to shovel out and look forward to 2017. Below are two recent items of note that I would like to share with you.

Car-X Proposed for East Johnson/East Washington Site

Car-X has proposed replacing the vacant printing shop on North Lawn next to Ella's Deli with a car repair facility. The existing facility in the 1000 block of East Washington Avenue will be closed because of redevelopment on the former Madison Dairy property.

At the December 1 Eken Park Neighborhood Meeting the proposal was reviewed and the residents attending unanimously did not support the proposal. We have now received the thirty-day pre-application notice which indicates the developer proposes to still move forward on the project. They have requested another opportunity to meet with the neighborhood association prior to the city's public hearings.

Below are the plans, site overview and a view looking from the East Johnson and East Washington intersection. I will send follow-up when I know more about the proposal's schedule.

Madison's Northside: A Safe and Thriving Community-Violence Prevention Initiative Coordinator

The City is hiring a limited term (24 months) coordinator for the recently approved Northside Safe and Thriving Community grant.

This position provides outreach and builds relationships with key Northside stakeholders to engage members of the public, community partners, and relevant groups in gathering input and information that leads to the development of a northside violence prevention plan.  In addition, this position ensures the planning and implementation timeline and activities of the "Madison's Northside: A Safe And Thriving Community" initiative are in compliance with agreements and requirements of the U.S. Department of Justice – Office Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP).

Please share with anyone who may be of interest.
