Oscar Mayer Special Area Committee

The 2017 City of Madison budget allocates $100,000 for a Special Area Plan for the Oscar Mayer (and adjacent) sites. City staff, District 18 Alder Kemble and myself are just beginning to have discussion about the scope of the planning process, the use of consultants and the establishment of a citizen committee.

We are focusing on establishing a committee that will have strong engagement with the community, including nearby residents and region-wide perspectives. We are interested in hearing from a variety of views and interest as to generate the best potential reuse plan as possible. We expect to begin the committee sometime in June which means we have only a few months to set lay the groundwork including appointing members of the committee.

At this point, if you have an idea for a sector that needs to be represented on the committee, an opinion on what areas the plan should incorporate or other thoughts on the process of establishing a planning process please let me know.

In a few months, I'll provide more information about how you can apply to be on the committee, learn more about the site and future re-use opportunities, and to voice your opinion about what you see as the potential for this site.

Mallards Stadium Duck Blind

While snow may still be on the ground, the Madison Mallards are already planning for their 2017 season. I have recently learned that they intend to replace the existing Duck Blind with a new facility that will enhance the Mallards experience.

Duck Blind

Plans have been submitted to the City of Madison Planning and will be brought through our regular committee process. In addition, I have asked the Mallards to reach out to nearby neighborhood associations to provide more information and engage in discussion about the project as well as the 2017 baseball season.

DSS Daycare and Learning Center

Recently DSS Daycare and Learning Center submitted a conditional use request for a 1,929-square foot three bedroom house at 1413 Wyldewood Dr to be used for daycare for sixteen youth age 2 ½ to 11 years of age. The center will be operated from 6:00am – 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. The expectation is this will primarily fill a neighborhood void of available daycare needs.

Unfortunately, the plans are not yet available online but should be available on the City's Legistar system shortly.
