Affordable Housing Project, Neighborhood Meetings and Body Worn Camera

January 17, 2022 4:22 PM

Dear neighbors,

I want to let you know about two virtual neighborhood meetings I am organizing to collect your feedback and engage residents.

  • 557 North Street - Neighborhood Meeting
    • ?Developer Travis Dettinger proposes a major renovation of the interior and exterior of the 3200 square foot building located at 557 North Street to create a venue for craft coffee, baked goods, and a brew pub.
    • The new venue would have a private event space available for rent, outdoor seating with a play area for children of patrons, space for a food truck, and a small catering-style kitchen for light pub snacks and to finish baked goods. The proposal includes removing the big chain linked fence along North Street and Commercial Avenue.
    • Please join me for a virtual neighborhood meeting at 6pm on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, to learn more about this proposal. You can join the virtual meeting using your computer, smartphone or tablet, or you can listen in via telephone. You will receive login information after registering at: https://cityofmadison.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZIqcuigpz0tE9UOK5KVPCZfeOdYh5GUYFDj

  • Bimbo Bakery site at the corner of E. Washington Avenue and N. Fair Oaks - Neighborhood Meeting
    • ?Wisconsin Housing Preservation Corp. (WHPC), a non-profit affordable housing organization based in Madison, is under contract to purchase the former Bimbo Bakery site at the corner of E. Washington Avenue and N. Fair Oaks Avenue. WHPC has been working on concept plans to redevelop the site into approximately 250 affordable apartments.
    • Please join me for a virtual neighborhood meeting at 6pm on Thursday, February 3, 2022, to learn more about this proposal. You can join the virtual meeting using your computer, smartphone or tablet, or you can listen in via telephone. You will receive login information after registering at: www.cityofmadison.com/MeetingFebruary3BimboBakerySite.
    • Below is the picture of the F-35 Noise Contour. The currently proposed project will be within the 65 DB boundary. I have expressed my concerns with the developer and I look forward to hearing all of your thoughts.
    • Spanish interpretation will be provided at the meeting. I look forward to the opportunity to discuss and gather feedback about the project and the future of the six-acre site.

Body Worn Cameras

The Body Worn Camera resolution is on the agenda for this Tuesday's Common Council meeting. I am referring the resolution to the April 19th Common Council meeting to provide ample time for the MPD to organize a public meeting with the compliance of the Surveillance Ordinance of the City of Madison.

I will share more thoughts and detailed points of opinion when it comes to the Council in April for adoption.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me with your questions and concerns.

Thanks!

Syed
