It is disappointing that Oscar Mayer has decided to leave Madison instead of investing in and flourishing with our community.

Many District 12 residents and Northsiders have dedicated their lives to Oscar Mayer and will be losing their livelihoods. Oscar Mayer has been part of our community for over 100 years and the loss of pride, economic activity and jobs will be undeniable.

Over the past few years we have begun to view the Northside as a food hub with the FEED Kitchen, Troy Gardens, and the potential for the Public Market. Oscar Mayer was a part of this effort that we need to dedicate resources to keep these initiatives going.

I am dedicated to working to find jobs and training for our neighbors and to pursue reuse of the site to the benefit of the Northside.

Today is a sad day in District 12. We will pull together and become a stronger community.
