OMSAP Community Input Final Phase - Coolidge Street - Preserving 31 Acres of HartMeyer Wetland and Natural Area

Dear Neighbors,

The Oscar Mayer Special Area Plan (OMSAP) is getting into the final phase to receive community input.

This Monday (6/29), it will be coming to the Plan Commission. This will be the last opportunity for neighbors to provide feedback before it goes to the Common Council. Below is a list of all the motions and recommendations committees and commissions have provided and now the Plan Commission will evaluate these recommendations and will provide their recomendation to the Common Council for final adoption.

 

5/4/20 Transportation Policy & Planning Board

Recommendation: Approval of the plan amended to include text that says the intersection of Coolidge and Packers is intended for safe, full pedestrian and bike access for all movements while limiting new cut-through traffic to Eken Park; updating the transportation map to include recommended low-stress bike routes within the area; and include an implementation/timeline for the transportation portion of the plan.

 

6/10/20 Board of Park Commissioners

Recommendation: Approve with the condition that the Plan Commission determines the adequacy of the plan against the recommendation of Alder Abbas and further review the other two options.

 

6/23/20 Sustainable Madison Committee

Recommendation: Adopt with an amendment to protect all 31 acres of Hartmeyer Natural Area and to address racial justice and social equity during the OMSAP redevelopment process must include assessing and preventing human exposures to toxic chemicals at the site and/or released from the site among all people and particularly at-risk low income people and people of color.

 

6/25/20 Housing Strategy Committee

Recommendation: Approve with the recommendation to the Plan Commission to consider expanding the 14-acre open space.
