COVID-19 Update: Mask Making
postedHi Everyone.
Today, I made my own mask. I don't have a sewing maching, so I used one of the no-sew patterns, using a bandana, a coffee filter, and two rubber bands.

There's an informative article on the NYT website that I highly recommend: "What's the Best Material for a Mask?"
We should all be wearing a mask when we go out in public. That's not to create a false sense of security. We still need to physically distance ourselves at all times. We still need to be washing our hands thoroughly and frequently. And we are clearly safest when we are staying at home.
However, if you do need to go out, please wear a mask, and do so for three reasons:
- If you do have the virus, it will reduce the chances you will spread it to others. You may feel fine, but you just might be among the 20% who are asymptomatic.
- If you wear a mask, especially when going to the grocery store, it's less likely you'll be touching your face.
- Wearing a mask is a sign of solidarity, meaning you're taking this seriously.

This election is crazy. I hope Gov. Evers can find a way to postpone it. It makes no sense to declare a statewide stay-at-home order and then create the conditions for a deadly virus to spread. If the GOP fails to cooperate with the Governor, it's simply because they are putting politics ahead of public safety.

It's a sunny day, so I'm heading back to my garden. I'm reminded of the last line of Voltaire's Candide: "Oui, mais il faut cultiver notre jardin." Yes, but we still need to tend to our garden.
Literally and metaphorically.
Turn off the news, get some fresh air, and be grateful.
Be safe. Be well. Be kind.
