COVID-19 Update: Bayview Needs Masks, plus Census Reminder

April 8, 2020 11:57 AM

Hi Everyone.

Still trembling with anger over yesterday's election?  Looking for something positive to do to take your mind off of the blatant voter suppression?

Alexis London, Bayview's Executive Director, sent out this call for help:

"Bayview needs at least 400 face masks for residents, staff and volunteers to ensure that everyone stays safe and protected. Please consider helping!

- Masks for volunteers and staff participating in our daily meal distribution program conducted in partnership with FEED Kitchen. Each day we are providing 60-100 pre-packaged meals to Bayview residents residents
- Masks for volunteers and staff delivering pre-packaged groceries to residents doorsteps
- Masks for all Bayview residents, ages 0-89, so that everyone can comfortably and safely go outside, grocery shopping, etc.

Can you help or do you know someone who can help?

Contact Nouthao@bayviewfoundation.org for more details."

Census Reminder

You can fill out the census from home. Everyone living in your household should be counted. Census data determines how more than $675 billion in federal funds are distributed to communities across the country for affordable housing, childcare, healthcare, education, transportation, and more.  That's over $2,000 per person for Madison and Dane County every year.  Please remind friends and family to be counted. By law your answers are confidential. Respond online at my2020census.gov, by phone, or by mail--without having to meet a census taker.

This week the Census Bureau is mailing follow-up letters to households that have not yet responded.  These follow-up letters will include the option to respond by paper form, where previous census mailings have steered people towards responding via the internet or by phone.  Maximizing self-responses to the census now is especially critical due to COVID-19, as it will mean Census Bureau employees will not need to knock on as many doors starting in May to follow up in person.

Don't give up. Ask for help. We will get through this together!

Be safe. Be well. Be kind.
