Hi Everyone.

Good Neighbor Gathering Was a Big Success

gng photo

There was a lot going on in District 13 this past weekend. On Saturday, September 25, we held the 2nd annual Good Neighbor Gathering at Brittingham Park. Despite lots of other events going on in the city, there was a nice turnout of neighbors from all over the district. It's apparent we are building something here with room to grow in the future. If you wish to be involved in the planning for next year's GNG, please send an email to District13Cares@gmail.com.

An important new mural in the district was unveiled on Saturday. Entitled "The Machine," this mural, located on the side of Neuhauser Pharmacy on Monroe Street, has an anti-racist theme in response to racist flyers that were distributed in the district last summer. I was encouraged by the turnout, particularly by the participation of our young people, teenagers who took it upon themselves to raise money for the project.

Speaking of murals, a new mural called "Hidden Gem" on Lakeside St was dedicated on Sept 19. Both of these murals are excellent examples of public art and are worth checking out.

Southwest Bike Path Closed This Week

The SW Path is closed this week through Friday for resurfacing.  Bike and pedestrian traffic is being re-routed to nearby streets, including lower Fox and Gregory. The signs for the detours are confusing. If you live on Gregory or lower Fox, the no-parking signs are to allow for a temporary bike detour while the path is being resurfaced. Your residential streets are not being resurfaced.

Project details can be found here.

The City has  scheduled a virtual public information meeting for 6:30 p.m. this evening, Sept. 28, via Zoom to discuss the planned construction project. Registration prior is required -- you may register by clicking here

If you wish to learn more about the project, you may do so by clicking here.

John Nolen Drive Reconstruction

The John Nolen Drive reconstruction project is having a public information meeting on Oct 4 at 6:30 pm. Pre-registration is required. For more information about the meeting and how to register, click here.

What do YOU Value When it Comes to YOUR Streets?

The City of Madison has been connecting with members of the community to learn what is important to them when it comes to streets throughout the city. The goal is to create an equitable process to design and construct streets – including roadways, sidewalks, terrace trees, and everything in between – based on YOUR shared community values.

We are now seeking additional input to ensure that we have heard you correctly. Take the survey and have your opinion recorded

This discussion is part of the City of Madison's Let's Talk Streets initiative, which seeks to gather input from the community to better inform project planning related to how our streets work. This latest survey, along with other engagement efforts, will help inform the way the City makes decisions about streets in the future: how they are designed, who they serve, how they are used, and how to make them safer. We want these design decisions for future streets to be rooted in our shared community values.

To request a printed survey, please contact recallaway@cityofmadison.com or call 608-266-6225.

Get vaccinated, be well and stay safe.
