Leaf Pick-Up Update
I've heard the rumblings and complaints. Why can't the City we support with our tax dollars pick up our leaves by late November?
Recall the early winter and the pre-Halloween snowfall. The Street Dept employees who pick up leaves are also the very same folks who plow after a snowstorm.
Imagine the complaints if staff were to say we can't plow your street until we've finished picking up leaves.
That said, staff are fully aware there are piles of leaves out there.
Here's the latest Leaf Collection Information:
*Leaf collection is not guaranteed to occur again this year because there is limited time available to perform this task before a winter storm hits our city.
*Streets Division crews will continue collecting leaves/yard waste for as long as the weather allows, but it is so late in the year, they may not be able to get to everyone again before a winter storm hits.
*The Streets Division will lose six days of collection due to the Thanksgiving holiday and the subsequent re-assignment of personnel to make up refuse & recycling collection due to the holiday.
*Many neighborhoods will not see their next yard waste collection until December, or possibly mid-December. Yes, that's when the threat of a snow storm increases, so there's a chance it won't happen then.*
*Any leaf piles the Streets Division cannot collection before a significant winter storm hits will be frozen in place until the spring.
*You can if you wish utilize the Drop-off sites, which are available and they remain on expanded hours until December 9.
*The drop-off sites that accept yard waste are located at 1501 W. Badger Rd, 4602 Sycamore Ave, and 402 South Point Rd.
*Expanded drop-off site hours are 7:30am to 4:30pm seven days a week and until 8:00pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
*On December 9, winter hours start. Winter hours are 7:30am to 3:00pm Monday to Friday.
Hopefully, we have an extended period of pleasant weather and all those leaves will get picked up.
