Updated -- District 13 Cares!

Hi Everyone.

You should be getting a postcard from me in your mailbox, an outreach to every resident in the district during these troubled times.

Back when I was applying to fill the interim alder position, prior to the actual campaign, it became evident that the neighborhood associations in the district were not talking to each other. Presidents of one association had no idea who the president was of another.

This was evident not only to me, but also to David Hoffert, who was also at that time applying to be interim alder.

David and I ended up competing against each other for last year's spring election. Much to David's credit, though losing the race, he pledged to help me be a success as your alder.  In particular, he's been a big help in getting the District 13 Neighborhood Alliance off the ground, which is an effort to improve communication among the various NAs.

David represents Dudgeon-Monroe on the Alliance. Others on the team include Jan O'Neil (Dudgeon-Monroe), Colleen Borchard (Monona Bay), Jesse Laz-Hirsch (Bay Creek), Sarah Bahauddin (Vilas), Dana Scheckel (Vilas), Karen Carlson (Greenbush) and Maria Gonzalez (Bayview).

These are the folks who organized last September's very successful inaugural Good Neighbor Gathering held at Brittingham Park.  They had hoped to do the same this year, but the coronavirus had other plans. While it's not 100% out of the question that GNG could come back this fall, the Alliance pivoted and asked how they could best help.

The answer is in reaching out to every single one of you. This effort comes from volunteers in your community, a network of neighbors eager to help out.

If you need help yourself, please reach out by calling 608.492.1331 or by email to district13cares@gmail.com.

Also, if you're interested in joining the effort and helping those who need help, please reach out, same number and email.

We have controversies in the district. We don't always agree. But in these troubled times, I've seen you reach out to one another repeatedly.

That which binds us together is stronger than our fears, our differences, our politics. There's no need to be alone. We're in this together.

If you need help, ask.  If you can help, offer.

Be safe. Be well. Be kind.
