COVID-19 Update: A Message from the Mayor on the HEROES Act, plus a Green Infrastructure Pilot Study

May 21, 2020 4:32 PM

Hi Everyone.

The Mayor is asking us to lobby the Senate to pass the HEROES Act. I fully agree. States and municipalities are facing huge shortfalls, which will mean furloughs and a comcomitant reduction in city services.

Though Madison was recently identified by Forbes magazine as one of the top ten cities most likely to effectively recover from the pandemic, we are not invulnerable.  Our economy is generally butressed by what are typically regarded as recession-proof jobs in the public sector which we enjoy in abundance from UW, the State Capitol, and local units in the city and county.  However, these public sector jobs are not immune from possible cuts necessitated by this crisis.

I'm hopeful the partisan nonsense playing out in Washington will give way to sound reasoning. Please consider joining the Mayor in reaching out to our two Senators, Ron Johnson and Tammy Baldwin.

On a different note...

The City of Madison Engineering Division would like to invite the public to learn more about green infrastructure and a pilot project in the Westmorland neighborhood, which borders District 13. The public is invited to attend an upcoming virtual public information meeting, 5:30 p.m., June 10, via Zoom.

Register for the meeting by June 9. All information on how to register is on the pilot project page.

Lastly, I have some thoughts about endurance that I'd like to share with you in the next day or two.

Until then,

Be safe. Be well. Be kind.
