Trade Specific Training in August
Opportunity to work with the Painters & Allied Trades and their corresponding contractors. The training will be free, begins on August 14th and finishes on September 1st. It is held at their new training facility during the evenings. We have utilized this model twice with the carpenters and with good success for the participants and the industry. Bill Clingan is presently putting together a pool of candidates that will be interviewed by a group of contractors and the trade union to see who gets into the training. The class will be made up of 10-15 people. Candidates will need motivation, a high school degree/GED, reliable transportation (license preferred), ability to pass needed trade tests, physically able to perform the job, be at least 18 years old and, of course, be able to commit to the training. If you have individuals you would like to refer to Bill, please do!
For more information, contact Bill Clingan: email – bclingan@wrpt.org or phone

2230 West Broadway Update
Movin' Out has created a list of people who are interested in 2230 West Broadway housing project. Thus far, they have received 126 names. As many of you know, I asked Movin' Out to give residents in the area first consideration. The majority of the names received to-date are residents from the area of Bridge, Lake Point and Waunona. This is not an automatic acceptance, an individual will need to submit an application and pass screening.
Traffic Study Completed – This study was done by an independent engineering company. The study shows no significant impact on Fayette, Lake Point, and West Broadway.
(6-28-17) Urban Design Commission– Motion to grant initial approval - with the following recommendations that the overall design incorporate a more contemporary look, eliminate the three-color scheme used in the initial submission and simplify by using one or two-color palate at the maximum and increase the landscaping throughout the property. The new development meets the UDD1 criteria.
(7-10-17) Plan Commission – voted approval of the conditional use. The Plan Commission found that the standards were met and approved this conditional use subject to the comments and conditions with the Plan Commission materials.
(8-5-17) Drop-In meeting was held at Bridge-Lake Point-Waunona neighborhood center regarding the design of 2230 W. Broadway on Saturday, August 5th to view the design, provide suggestions, or comment at the Bridge Lake Point Waunona neighborhood center. Please plan to attend the UDC meeting in August.
(8-16-17) Urban Design Commission (UDC) meeting to consider final approval – Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 4:30 pm – 210 Martin Luther King, Blvd. Room 351. Movin' Out will present their second design revision that includes the recommendations by the UDC. If you are unable to attend this meeting, please send me your comments on the design draft.

Pick n' Save (formerly Copps)
Many of you are aware that Ohio-based Kroger, Co. purchased Roundy's which operates Copps, Pick n' Save, and Metro Market stores in Wisconsin. Welton Enterprise, Inc. located in Madison has owned the 1312 S. Park Street parcel since 2014. In January 2015, Roundy's stated they had renewed their lease for 5 years. How does this change affect District 14? Although this location is in District 13 the impact of losing a grocery store in District 14 would be catastrophic to the residents in the Bram's Addition and Burr Oaks neighborhoods, not to mention what the impact would be in the other surrounding neighborhoods. I am championing Welton Enterprise to ensure that we have a grocery store in this area.
Please stay tuned!

Mad City Mitsubishi – Update
A lot has happened this year to get the Expo Inn on Ann Street ready for construction of the new Mad City Mitsubishi dealership location. The owners closed on the property early this year, and went straight to work to get the asbestos removed. When that was completed, the building itself was demolished. They are now ready to crush the concrete. This process is great for the environment because they will be reusing the old concrete in the new construction. The tentative grand opening is January 2018.

City of Madison Comprehensive Plan
I have requested that the District 14 be zoned for LR for future developments. This will provide the district with housing type townhouses, duplex/twin, single houses, etc. In addition, future development on West Broadway will be dedicated to commercial.
Thank you to all the residents who took the time to send in your recommendations to the Plan Commission land use committee.
