City Offices Close and Property Tax Payment

January 31, 2019 1:30 AM

City Offices Remain Closed for a 2nd Day

buildingDue to extremely hazardous weather conditions, the City is taking extraordinary measures to ensure the safety of our employees, residents, and guests. All non-essential City services will be shut down and closed to the public on Thursday, January 31st.

Madison Metro Transit will be in service with some limitations. Please check to determine which routes are in operation. Police and Fire will be working, as will Public Works employees as they keep streets, sidewalks and bike paths cleared and provide residents with safe drinking water. Staff throughout the City will be monitoring phones and returning calls as needed. The City offices will reopen on Friday, February 1st.

For more information: City Offices Closed

Keep layering during these extreme weather days.

bundleOn January 30th Madison was colder than Antarctica with a temperature measuring minus 26 degrees with wind chills at minus 30/45 degrees!  Antarctica's temperature was 25 degrees.

Weather Alert continues to Thursday with temperature between 20 to 30 below/wind chills at 35 to 50 below zero.  Frost bite of exposed skin in less than 5 minutes.

If you absolutely need to venture outside in this extreme weather; please wear multiple layers of clothes to avoid frost bite. Don't forget your hat and gloves!

Right now a heat wave would be 15 degrees.  Stay Safe!

Property Tax Payment Due Date Extended

Due to the extreme cold and City offices remaining closed on January 31st. The City has extended a grace taxesperiod for January 31 deadline for first installment: Payments may be made by mail or in person at our office until 4:30 pm on Thursday, February 7th. Payments must be IN OUR HANDS by 4:30 pm February 7th to be considered timely. Mail received after that time will be delinquent REGARDLESS of the postmark.

If you failed to pay at least the first installment, your taxes will be delinquent and due in their entirety. Delinquent taxes are charged 1% interest and .5% penalty each month. These charges are assessed on the first day of each month on the current balance.
