Update on the City Response to Storm Damage this Afternoon

Many City of Madison departments have been responding to today's damaging storm including fire, police, traffic engineering, forestry, streets, building inspection, engineering and more.

Truax Park Apartments, Community Development Authority (CDA) housing located at 1501 Wright Street, lost a part of its gable roof during the storm event. The building was constructed with a concrete roof, and a wooden gable roof was installed to help with drainage a few years ago. The building has been initially inspected by the City's building inspectors, and an electrician is assessing the electrical damage to assure safety for energizing the building. Due to the complexities involved, the electrician will be visiting the site tomorrow morning with a crew to assess and isolate electrical concerns. The building may be occupied when any issues are resolved.

The American Red Cross has established a shelter that will house families from the Truax Park Apartments at 1501 Wright Street. If anyone in Madison needs shelter tonight due to power outage, they can come to the shelter at Madison College, 1701 Wright Street.

If you experienced damage at your property, you may need to contact a building contractor or engineer to assess the damage to your structures. Use caution around downed trees and any downed lines, which may be energized. If you spot a power line dangling or on the ground, stay away. Notify MGE immediately by calling (608) 252-7111.

City Urban Forestry crews will be working through the evening and tomorrow clearing downed trees from roadways and removing fallen trees from parked cars and other private property. Once these high priority issues are resolved, crews will then move to other concerns, such as broken limbs still attached to trees. Damage from this storm occurred throughout the city. It will take crews a long time to respond to all of these issues, especially for lower priority concerns. Complete clean up from this storm is expected to take multiple days.

Heat Advisory

There will be a heat advisory in effect from June 14, 11:00 AM CDT until June 15, 08:00 PM CDT. The County will be opening the Dane County Coliseum as a cooling center during the day tomorrow (Tuesday, June 14th). The cooling center at the Coliseum will be open from 10am until 5pm Tuesday. Those accessing the cooling center are encouraged to enter thru the west lobby of the Coliseum (by the large globe). If you need a ride to the Coliseum you can ride Madison Metro for free just by telling the driver where you are headed.
