Voting Update - 4/2/20

April 2, 2020 9:56 AM

polling changes

Despite lawsuits and against the wishes of our Mayor and Governor, it so far appears the election is on schedule for this Tuesday (April 7). Today is the LAST DAY you can request an absentee ballot! All ballots MUST be returned and received by the Clerk's office by April 7th.

In addition to returning your ballots via mail, they can also be dropped off in the book return at Pinney or Central library branches. The book return at Pinney is at the new branch at 516 Cottage Grove Road. Please use the new drive-through book return on the north side of the building accessed via the parking lot. And also please DO NOT drop books or other library materials in the book drops during this time. We do not want ballots to be damaged. Please keep all library materials at home until the libraries reopen to the public. All due dates will be extended and no library fines will be charged.

There is a shortage of election day workers and some locations are unavailable so there has been a change for some polling locations. The only change impacting District 15 residents is for those in Ward 17 (Hiestand Park). American Family will not be a polling location for this election and voters will need to go to Kennedy Elementary school instead.

I will be working the poll at the East YMCA for Ward 15 on Tuesday where we will have things set up in the best way we can to protect voters and poll workers. Voting via absentee ballot will help keep volumes low and everyone safe, so please take advantage of this if at all possible.

Curbside voting will remain available at this time for high-risk individuals 8 a.m.-6 p.m, Monday-Friday:

The City of Madison has reserved parking meters on the 200 block of Martin Luther King, Jr., Boulevard for any City of Madison voter to register and/or vote from the curb.  Just pull up to a parking meter in front of the City-County Building or Madison Municipal Building with a "No Parking - Police Order sign."  If you have a cell phone, you can call the number posted on the sign at the meter to begin the curbside voting process.  Otherwise, wave at one of our election officials standing in front of the building, wearing a bright yellow vest.  Two officials will bring your ballot to your vehicle and will check your voter ID at your vehicle.  If you have your own pen to use, wave it at the officials as they approach your vehicle.  (Note, we are sanitizing clipboards and pens after each use.)

If you had the Clerk's Office mail you an absentee ballot and you need a witness, you may use the curbside voting process for that purpose. You can also read about other witness options here:
