Family Shelter Update

From Tara Barica at Salvation Army: "We are wrapping up our third week since opening the Family Shelter in the old Karmenta facility. The move from hotels to this facility has been great! Families are getting settled in and it has been great to see all the kiddos playing in the new space! We are currently serving 35 families in shelter and 4 families have permanent housing move-in dates projected for June 1st so we will be able to move some more families in soon." You can find more details including info on volunteering and donations here.

Proposed Zoning Changes

The zoning changes that are intended to streamline the development process (agenda item #5) will be up for debate at the Common Council meeting on Tuesday. While I support the goals of infill development and increased density as articulated in our comprehensive plan, I remain very concerned with the proposal as it stands. While these changes would make it easier for some developers to build some projects 'by right', they do not address our housing affordability crisis and fail to support the development of complete neighborhoods that are also called for in our comprehensive plan. Cutting out public input and engagement is not the way to move Madison forward. You can find a link to the agenda as well as a link to register for comment here.

Ride the Drive

Ride the Drive will be happening in four locations across the city, including at Kennedy Park on the eastside. You can find all the details here.
