Eastmorland Sidewalks, Olbrich Path Alignment, Walter Street Detour - D15 Update 10/11/21

October 11, 2021 11:21 AM

map
Walter Street will be closed at the RR tracks all week for track repairs. You can find the details here.

Redistricting

The final recommendation of the Ad Hoc Redistricting Committee is for option 7a, consistent with the information I shared in my previous blog post. This proposal is expected to be introduced at the 10/19 common council meeting with a public hearing and final adoption on 11/2. I generally support the proposed map and feel that it does a very good job of balancing all of the competing interests. I will be working on a small potential amendment that would keep the entire Ridgewood neighborhood together in D17. Once approved by the common council, the maps will take effect no later than 12/31/21.

Executive Operating Budget

The Finance Committee will hold a public hearing on the mayor's proposed Executive Operating Budget on Monday and will hear agency presentations on Monday and Tuesday. You can find a link to the meeting details here and a link to the detailed budget proposal here. Final deliberations and action on the operating and capital budgets will occur in November.

New Sidewalk Project for Eastmorland

City staff will be presenting information regarding this project at the Eastmorland Community Association meeting to be held on Tuesday, Oct.12, 2021. City staff is scheduled to begin the presentation at 7:30 p.m. Several sidewalk gaps were reviewed and staff will be sharing their recommendations for which projects move forward and are seeking neighborhood input. This meeting will be held virtually via Zoom. You can find a link to the project here, a link to the ECA agenda here and you can register for the meeting here.

Olbrich Path Alignment

The Board of Park Commissioners will consider three potential options for an improved path connection through Olbrich Park that will happen as part of the planned Atwood Avenue reconstruction project at their meeting on Wednesday beginning at 6:30p. I can support either option 1 or option 3 and would prefer a combination of these two options that would provide an accessible multi-use path in both directions. You can find a link to the agenda and links to provide comment and register for the meeting here and you can find the item details here.

N. Thompson Speed Reduction

N. Thompson Drive is the next street to get a speed recudtion as part of the city's Vision Zero initiative. This is a very dangerous corridor currently, especially for those that are walking or biking. You can find more details about this initiative here.

2021 Prescribed Burns

The city will be conducting prescribed burns over the next month at a number of locations, including Lake Edge Park and the Starkweather-Olbrich Greenway. You can find more details and sign up for alerts here.
