Mural, Library Pickup, COVID Testing - D15 Update 5/11/20
Common Council: The Common Council upheld the decision of the Alcohol License Review Committee and denied the change of license premise request by Visions. This means that the private booths that were constructed without building permits and without ALRC permission will need to be removed. At Tuesday's meeting, I also introduced a new resolution entitled: Providing a COVID-19 Response for People Experiencing Unsheltered Homelessness by Allowing Temporary Use of Specified City Lands, Terminable at Any Time by the City, In Order to Support Safe Outdoor Space Practices. This resolution is needed in order to prevent the spread of COVID associated with encampments on city property. I will share more details next week before the item is considered at the May 19th Common Council meeting.
Shots Fired on Camden: As I posted here, there were shots fired resulting in three injuries on Camden Road on Friday night. The investigation is under way and anyone with information should contact Madison Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.
New DAMA Mural: Dane Arts Mural Arts unveiled their newest mural last week, this one honoring and celebrating essential workers. You can see the mural painted on their garage doors at 5004 Allis Avenue and you can watch a video about the mural here.
COVID Testing Available: Public Health has announced that COVID testing will be available at the Alliant Energy Center starting this week. You can find all more details here.
Curbside Library Pickup: Library hold curbside pickup also begins today. Find out how it works here.
Plan Commission: Approval for Woodman's plans to demolish the auto service station, convenience store, restaurant, and car wash and replace it with a new auto service station, convenience store, and car wash will be in front of the Plan Commission on Monday. This project will bring the parking lot up to current standards including the addition of many trees and will improve the pedestrian and bicycle access in several locations.
Finance Committee: On Tuesday, FC will take up item 13, Amending the 2020 General Land Acquisition Fund Budget by $900,000 and Authorizing the execution of a two-year Lease Agreement between the City of Madison and Watson Smith LLC for the City's lease of the property located at 4502 Milwaukee Street for temporary shelter purposes, with the option to purchase the property at the end of the two-year lease. This lease includes the option to purchase and will give the city and neighbors the opportunity to influence how the site is used and redeveloped in the future.
Eastmorland Community Association: On Tuesday, the ECA will hold its monthly meeting virtually. A link to the agenda including directions for joining the meeting can be found here.
- Transportation Commission: The TC's agenda for Wednesday is packed with many items related to transit, parking, and traffic including several proposed safety improvement projects that were funded in this year's budget. You can find all the details on the agenda here.
