Shooting on Madison Metro Bus

September 20, 2018 9:19 AM

On the afternoon of September 19, there was a shooting on a Madison Metro bus on Pflaum Road.

Right now, it appears that the shooting was not a deliberate act.  Video from the bus appears to show a group of teens in the back of the bus handling a gun before it accidentally discharged.  We know one male teen was shot in the leg and another was grazed by the bullet and left before his would could be examined by emergency medical personnel.

When the youth with the gun fled the scene he ran towards the school which resulted in the schools going on lockdown as a precautionary measure.  This morning the youth with the firearm turned himself in to law enforcement and he is presently in custody.

Every indication is that this was an isolated incident.  Based on information available as I write this note, it does not appear there was an intent to target or hurt anyone.

Presently, the location of the firearm is unknown to Madison Police.  They used canines in an effort to locate the firearm, but it has not been recovered as of this morning.

I will share any additional information from the Madison Police Department regarding this incident as it becomes available.
