I-39/90 Expansion Project

Good afternoon,

Work is underway on the I-39/90 and WIS 59 interchange reconfiguration, Rock River bridge replacements near Edgerton and Newville, WIS 11 (Avalon Road) interchange reconstruction south of Janesville, and Hart Road improvements near Beloit.

Once other projects related to the I-39/90 Expansion Project begin, construction updates for those projects will also be listed below and posted on the I-39/90 Expansion Project website. Updates can include upcoming work, lane or ramp closures, and associated traffic impacts.

Construction update for March 21-25
All lane restrictions and work operations are weather dependent and subject to change.

I-39/90 and WIS 59 interchange and Rock River bridges, near Edgerton and Newville

Updated: Nightly single lane closures on I-39/90 northbound and southbound from the Dane/Rock County line to south of the Rock River bridges.

8 p.m. – 5 a.m. (March 21-25)
Minor delays may occur during these lane closures.

Updated: WIS 59 interchange activities:

Grading work continues on Hemenway Road for the new road connection from WIS 59 to Goede Road, west of the Interstate.
Grading underway on the new I-39/90 southbound off ramp to WIS 59. Crews will also install culvert pipes under I-39/90 during the nighttime lane closures.

Rock River bridge operations:

Updated: Cofferdam construction begins next week in the river. Ongoing work for the causeway to build the new I-39/90 northbound bridge piers.
Ellendale Road CLOSED to through traffic under I-39/90 for most of the Rock River bridge replacement project. Alternate local routes are required.
N. Richardson Springs Road CLOSED to through traffic, and will remain accessible to local residences.

Access remains open to area businesses and neighborhoods. Please continue to patronize area businesses in the project area!

I-39/90 and WIS 11 (Avalon Road) interchange, south of Janesville

Updated: View construction operations at the WIS 11 (Avalon Road) interchange.

Please be alert for crews and equipment in the area.

Updated: Nightly lane closures on I-39/90 northbound and southbound at the WIS 11 (Avalon Road) interchange.

8 p.m. – 5 a.m. (March 21-25)
Minor delays may occur during these lane closures.

Starting Monday, March 28, Avalon Road between I-39/90 and County J will be CLOSED to all traffic until early May 2016.

Alternate routes are required. Road will be passable by farm equipment only.

Updated: WIS 11 traffic shifted to the south side of the existing bridge. One lane open in each direction of WIS 11 at the interchange.
Two lanes remain open to traffic on I-39/90 (in each direction) during daytime hours.

Hart Road improvements and bridge replacement, near Beloit

Updated: Nightly single lane closures on I-39/90 northbound at the Hart Road bridge.

8 p.m. – 5 a.m. (March 21-25)
Minor delays may occur during these lane closures.

Updated: View construction activities.
Hart Road CLOSED to through traffic from I-43 to County S (Shopiere Road). Access remains open to local residences and businesses.
