D17 Updates on Voter Registration, Christmas Holiday Refuse & Recycling Schedule and More
Verify your Voter Registration
As you may have heard, last Friday a judge ordered the Elections Commission to inactivate the registrations of voters who may have moved. The last time the Elections Commission inactivated registrations for this reason, they learned that they were relying on inaccurate DMV data. (When someone would take out a car loan with a co-signer, the DMV changed the address to the address of the co-signer.)
In response to Friday's court ruling regarding the inactivation of voter registrations, the Madison City Clerk's Office strongly encourages voters to verify their registration status.
Voters with online access may verify their registration by visiting https://MyVote.wi.gov/en-us/ Toward the top of the webpage, they may select "Search by Name" or "My Voter Info" to search for their voter registration. The website will prompt the voter to enter their name and date of birth.
Once the voter's registration information appears on the screen, the voter should look for a status of "You are Registered to Vote!" and should verify that the current address listed is accurate. If the voter sees a green button that says, "Click Here to Confirm Your Address," that means the voter was included in the mailing the Elections Commission recently sent to all voters it believed may have moved. It is imperative that these voters click the green button to confirm their address, if accurate, or click the gray "Update Address" button to update their voter registration online.
Voters without access to the internet are encouraged to contact the City Clerk's Office to verify their voter registration status.

2019 Christmas Holiday Refuse & Recycling Schedule
Tuesday, December 24: Get the scheduled carts to the curb. The normal collection occur. But, the carts *must* be out by 7:00am. We try to wrap up curbside collections by 11:00am, so we increase the solid waste collection staff. This means we get to some neighborhoods earlier than what some residents may expect. If the carts are out by 7:00am (as they should always be) then no one will miss their collection. The drop-off sites close at 11:00am, too.
Wednesday, December 25: Closed for Christmas. No curbside collections. No drop-off site.
Thursday, December 26: We collect from people with a Wednesday & Thursday pickup day. These folks must get the carts to the curb by 7:00am. Since we double-up the staff to perform two days' worth of collection in a single shift, crews might be in some neighborhoods at different times than what some residents expect. If the carts are out by 7:00am (as they should always be) then no one should miss their collection. Drop-off sites resume normal winter hours.
Drop-off Sites Information
The City of Madison drop-off sites will be open the following hours:
December 23, Monday - 7:30am to 3:00pm
December 24, Tuesday - 7:30a.m. to 11:00a.m.
December 25, Wednesday - Closed
December 26, Thursday - 7:30a.m. to 3:00p.m.
December 27, Friday - 7:30a.m. to 3:00p.m.

Madison Fire Makes Switch to PFA-free Foam
The Madison Fire Department has acquired and placed into service a brand of firefighting foam shown to be PFA-free, according to manufacturer claims and an independent test of the product.
Effective December 13, 2019, all Madison Fire Department rigs were equipped with National Foam brand's Knockdown Class A Foam Concentrate. This foam was independently tested by the University of Notre Dame to verify the fluorine levels in the product. Results of the test showed fluorine levels at 1 ppm with a margin of error of 6 ppm. Fluorinated firefighting foam products typically contain around 5,000-7,000 ppm total fluorine.
Thank you all and Happy Holidays and New Year.
