Last Chance Leaf Collection Starts Sunday, December 5, 2021

December 1, 2021 10:41 AM

A significant snow event could still affect this final pickup

The Streets Division will be providing one last chance for curbside collection for leaves and yard waste.

All residents who need one final curbside pickup for yard waste should get their material out for pickup by December 5, 2021 at the latest.

After you place the yard waste out for pickup, you will then just need to wait for your last curbside pickup as collection crews will arrive as soon we can following that set-out date.

If you elect to set your leaves out after December 5, you may miss your final opportunity.

What happens if it snows?
Small snow events are not likely to affect leaf collection. However, if a significant winter snow arrives that completely covers the leaf piles or triggers a citywide plowing event, operations will shift to winter maintenance and leaf collection will slow or perhaps even need to stop depending on the severity of the storm.

About the Last Chance Collection
The Streets Division will begin the last chance collection on Monday, December 6, 2021.

Collection crews will be running at full capacity in order to collect as much as possible as quickly as possible. And it will still take multiple work days to provide curbside collection for the entire city one more time.

If you need one final curbside collection of leaves, you must get your leaves and yard waste out for the last chance pickup on Sunday, December 5 and then await the curbside collection.

If your yard waste is out on December 5, and if your pile follows all collection rules and it is accessible by our crews, it should be collected during this last chance pickup barring a significant winter event.

What happens if you miss the last chance pickup?
You will need to take your leaves to a drop-off site.

The drop-off sites will begin reduced winter hours at the close of business on Friday, December 3.

Be sure you know the drop-off site hours and which locations are open before loading your vehicle.

Check the drop-off sites website to learn the hours and restrictions. The website is www.cityofmadison.com/DropOffSites.
