Week of August 21 Meetings of Possible Interest to District 2

The week of August 21 has items of possible interest to residents of district 2 at the Board of Park Commissioners – SPECIAL SUNDAY RETREAT, the Landmarks Commission, the Pedestrian/Bicycle/Motor Vehicle Commission, the Neighborhood Meeting about Edgewater Events and Associated Noise, and the Housing Strategy Committee. The city meeting agenda items are open for testimony from the public should you be interested in weighing in.  I also appreciate hearing from you on any items on which you have a particular interest or concern so please send me an email or give me a call.

Also, committees and commissions have an opportunity at the beginning of each agenda for Public Comment on items not on the agenda.  If you have something you want to share with a committee or commission, you can use the Public Comment time to do so.

Neighborhood Traffic Management Program (NTMP) Revisions Approval.

The NTMP Objectives, Policies and Procedures are attached at the agenda link. The document has been modified to relax selection criteria and steps for disadvantaged areas/neighborhoods. The changes were made in consultation with the City racial equity team. Recommendations include changes to item number 8, page 3, noting the following:

"In the interest of furthering racial equity and access to the NTMP by neighborhoods with residents who have historically not been involved in City processes the City may waive &/or modify the petition and survey requirements in consultation with the District Alderperson. These neighborhoods are typically areas with higher concentrations of low income residents, people of color or within Neighborhood Resource Team areas."

Page 5, Step 3 has also been modified, and provides "The City may consider other compelling issues to determine project priority and scheduling."

These changes are in addition to work being done with City Information Services to consider new ways to encourage participation, including mechanisms to survey people electronically for example via cell phone. This is to encourage greater participation in the process and should benefit all neighborhoods.
