Week of March 13 Meetings of Possible Interest to District 2

The week of March 13 has items of possible interest to residents of district 2 at the Sustainable Madison Committee-Street Tree Working Group, the Board of Estimates, a Neighborhood Meeting – Proposal to Redevelop County parcels at 1314, 1318 and 1326 E. Washington, a Neighborhood Meeting – Proposed Hotel Development 118 – 122 State Street, the Street Use Staff Commission, the Alcohol License Review Committee, the Landlord and Tenant Issues Committee, the  Downtown Coordinating Committee and the Madison Police Department Policy & Procedure Review Ad Hoc Committee. The city meeting agenda items are open for testimony from the public should you be interested in weighing in.  I also appreciate hearing from you on any items on which you have a particular interest or concern so please send me an email or give me a call.

Also, committees and commissions have an opportunity at the beginning of each agenda for Public Comment on items not on the agenda.  If you have something you want to share with a committee or commission, you can use the Public Comment time to do so.

Authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to execute Subterranean and Air Space Lease with 202 E. Washington, LLC, the owner of property located at 1 N. Webster Street, to accommodate proposed encroachments of certain building features into the E. Washington Avenue and N. Webster Street public rights-of-way.

Authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to execute a Subterranean and Air Space Lease with the 202 E. Washington, LLC to accommodate the subterranean and airspace encroachments in the North Webster Street and East Washington Avenue public rights-of-way.

SUBSTITUTE - Appropriating $50,000 from the 2017 Planning Division Operating Budget and Authorizing the City of Madison to enter into a contract with the Madison Central Business Improvement District (BID) for $50,000 to fund the continuation of the Downtown Activities Program focused on existing plazas around the Capitol Square and State Street (2nd, 4th and 8th AD).

CLOSED SESSION NOTICE

When the Board of Estimates considers the following item, it may go into closed session pursuant to Sections 19.85(1)(e) and 19.85(1)(g), Wisconsin Statutes, which read as follows: 19.85(1)(e): Deliberating or negotiating the purchasing of public properties, the investing of public funds, or conducting other specified business, whenever competitive or bargaining reasons require a closed session. 19.85(1)(g): Conferring with legal counsel for the governmental body who is rendering oral or written advice concerning strategy to be adopted by the body with respect to litigation in which it is or is likely to become involved. If the Board of Estimates does convene in closed session as described above, upon completion of the closed session, notice is hereby given that it may reconvene in open session to consider the following item without waiting 12 hours, pursuant to Wis. Stats. Sec. 19.85(2).

Neighborhood Meeting – Proposal to Redevelop County parcels at 1314, 1318 and 1326 E. Washington

Dane County is interested in facilitating redevelopment of County owned parcels at 1314, 1318, and 1326 E. Washington Avenue (former Messner site) for mixed income housing that includes units affordable for extremely and very low income families as well as some market rate units.  The County plans to issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) to select a developer.  Part of the process is to consider neighborhood input and recommendations for terms to be included in the RFP. The selected project will also have to go through the City development review process. Please join us for a neighborhood meeting to hear about the County's RFP process, to ask questions, and to provide your ideas.

Please join Alder Verveer and Alder Zellers for a neighborhood meeting about a proposal to redevelop 118-122 State Street, replacing the existing six-story and two-story buildings on the site. Ascendant Holdings, in partnership with Central Properties and Provenance Hotels, is proposing to construct a new boutique hotel, with four stories facing State Street and up to nine stories facing Dayton and Carroll Streets, including approximately 110 guest rooms, a first-floor restaurant, a fifth-floor terrace, and a ninth-floor lounge and roof terrace.
