The week of March 12 has items of possible interest to residents of district 2 at the Finance Committee, the Plan Commission, the Police and Fire Commission, the Board of Park Commissioners, the Yahara Watershed Improvement Network Group, and the Task Force on Structure of City Government. The city meeting agenda items are open for testimony from the public should you be interested in weighing in.  I also appreciate hearing from you on any items on which you have a particular interest or concern so please send me an email or give me a call.

Also, committees and commissions have an opportunity at the beginning of each agenda for Public Comment on items not on the agenda.  If you have something you want to share with a committee or commission, you can use the Public Comment time to do so.

Superintendent's March 2018 Report
RECOMMEND ACCEPTANCE OF THE REPORT.

        Go to agenda item 8 to look at complete 16 page report.  Some items of interest in D2:

  • Central Park will be officially renamed to McPike Park in a dedication ceremony at the park on Wednesday, April 4 at 3pm. All are invited to attend.
  • Breese Stevens Facility Plan – Isthmus/Central

Status: Planning

Staff and Isthmus Architecture are finalizing plans for a new concessions and restroom addition to the historic stadium. The project received approval from the Wisconsin State Historical Society in October and City of Madison Landmarks Commission in early December. The project was presented to the Urban Design Commission on January 24th. Per the request of the District 2 alder, the Commission referred the project to February 21st to allow for additional neighborhood review. The project received final approval from the UDC on the 21st.The project will be released for bids in March 2018, with the majority of the construction occurring during the 2018-2019 off-season.

  • Emerald Ash Borer Mitigation – City Wide

Status: On-going

Staff developed a GIS-based mapping database to inventory all ash trees removed and replaced in the park system and continues to coordinate with parks operations staff for the citywide replacement of ash trees.

  • 2018-2022 Park and Open Space Plan – City Wide

Status: On-going

Staff has completed most of the data collection and engagement for the 2018-2022 Park and Open Space Plan (POSP) Update. Staff is currently working on developing the draft plan in coordination with the Parks Long Range Planning Subcommittee.

  • 2017 Parks Division Landscaping – City Wide

Status: Construction / Maintenance

Work has been completed for the installation of trees and shrubs at various sites in the park system. Maintenance under the contract will start back up in May 2018 and will continue through December 1, 2018.

  • James Madison Park Master Plan and Shelter Design- Near East

Status: Planning

Urban Assets is continuing the public engagement process for the master plan and shelter design. The first stakeholder meeting was held January 10th, 2018, the first public input meeting was held on January 17th, 2018, and the first focus group meeting was held on January 31st. The second stakeholder meeting was held on February 28th, and the second public input meeting was held on February 10th, 2018. All focus group interviews required as part of this project have been completed.

  • Gates of Heaven Improvements – Central

Status: Planning

Gates of Heaven flooring replacement is scheduled for 2018 in conjunction with exterior improvements being completed by Engineering staff. Staff will work with the State Historical Preservation Office (SHPO) to determine if a more durable variety of flooring will be allowed since Gates of Heaven is on the National Register. A new roof for the building is also planned for 2018.

  • Staff is reviewing potential options for new dog parks in accordance with the recently adopted dog park policy
